Candles for our Ancestors
At this time of year, when the veil between the living and the dead is thinnest, my cousins in Slovenia purchase these candles to put on the graves of their ancestors. Kiosks in the main city of Ljubljana sell these candles, which are glass containers filled with oils in a rainbow of colors.
My cousin, Maja, tends to a grave
in our family's church graveyard in Metlika.
This time of year is so mystical. Sometimes I get shivers down my spine.
ReplyDeleteMe too Loree - love it
Deletewe have the same tradition here in Poland
ReplyDeleteCool! I wonder how many other countries in Europe do this?
DeleteI can't believe you found that candle holder Amanda. So perfect. I got 5 pomegranates off my tree this year. I am going to let them all dry out so I can have them for posterity. Thought I might paint them a glossy white and put them on display in a bowl.
ReplyDeleteOh I love that idea!!!! White pomegranates - what a cool look for the holidays!
