Sign of an early Spring? In Vienna one of the sure fire signs that spring has arrived is when the first topless sunbathers appear on the banks of the Danube. Also noteworthy is that it is generally thought of as "no big deal" and civilization does not topple. (In fact, only Americans like me seem to take any note of it at all.) Anyway, I hope the appearance of these two goddesses heralds the arrival of blue skies and warm temps: I'm tired of gray skies, rain and cold. I bet the weather is already getting nice in Greece. To each generation their own take on the classics.
Topless sunbathers on the banks of the Danube??? Now that's something I've never heard - I bet those folks on tourist boats down the river didn't expect that on their cruise!
But you're right - Americans are so prudish compared to our Europeans cousins. I like the idea that this might herald the arrival of spring ---
a bit of rather tame pornography, but these gals don't look all that Greek to me - well, I suppose they have lost the shirt off their backs (pants and socks, etc)
A fine pairing! If these are goddesses, the right one definitely Isis, and the left one Barbie — or Barbarella...
ReplyDeleteHaha! Good call Robert. I like the idea of Isis and Aphrodite actually...
DeleteHow very interestingly weird. A fine pairing indeed, as the Solitary Walker says. What one sees sometimes on the streets....
ReplyDeleteIt was weird, and a bit jarring actually to see these two on the street!
DeleteA good comparison...however, I think our sculpture just doesn't compare to that of old.
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree. I just couldn't resist the comparison of these two in the midst of a place where truly beautiful sculpture abounds..
Deletein my dreams this is my body :^)

Haha, not quite as breath-taking as ancient sculptures are they?
ReplyDeleteWell composed shot! It's good to see some racial diversity in mannequins. My daughter says there are now racially diverse emoticons for texting.
