Shakespeare and Company and the Musee D'Orsay

My favorite bookstore in Paris, which has floral arrangements among the stacks of volumes...

A stunning image of Truth, by Jules Lefebvre

and one of Van Gogh's starry nights, both in the Musee D'Orsay, which is a converted railway station

whose massive clock

affords a beautiful view of the city below

  1. I haven't seen any of that in Paris Amanda, so it's a nice treat. Gorgeous.

  2. Lovely! My only Paris trip was a two day event, by bus, to and from a couple of landmarks, and a winery meal. I wish we had spent more time walking about, discovering the everyday wonders.

  3. I'd love to visit this famous book store. We will be in Paris next week, but just for one evening, so I doubt I will make it. I guess it's a good excuse to visit again.

  4. And there is a great Jazz Club about a block away from Shakespeare and company, La Caveau de la Huchette. It is in a touristy alleyway, but it is the real deal w/ quality live Jazz bands playing beneath the arches in a medieval cellar. Been in business 60+ years. Doors open at 9:00 (or 9:30?) Get there early to get a seat... but then it loosens up when the dancing starts. Love that area of the Left Bank. Never go to Paris without a visit to Shakespeare and Co. as Vienna only has one tiny English Language Bookstore, oddly enough also named Shakespeare and Co. Sorry about running on and on. We LOVE Paris. Went there last September to see Jimmy Buffett at a small venue. Okay enough! Thanks for Paris, Amanda. :-)
