Postcards from the Underworld: Photos and Chinese Cookie Fortunes

Every day, when I sit at my desk to work, I face a collection of cherished photos, memorabilia, Chinese cookie fortunes and quotes that inspire me...

...what inspires you?

  1. These peeks at your inspirations make me feel warm all over. We have to get back down to something every day that is true about who we are, because there are far too many voices to thwart that essence. The Fuller quote is perfect, who are we, what do we have to say if no one is listening? And I love Byron Katie and feel she is one of the most important voices today. Thank you for sharing. <3

    1. Far too many voices for sure try to thwart that essence. You truly understand that need to stay connected to one's creative source.

  3. I have happy tears in my eyes. Do you remember sending me that pressed tin heart so many, many years ago, Sis?

Btw, is that Georgia O'Keeffe in the first pic?

    1. I do remember buying it for you at my favorite store in Athens.

Yes, the first pic is O'Keeffe - in my opinion, one of the world's most beautiful women, not just physically but creatively, spiritually and intellectually. She reminds me of my mother and grandmother.

  4. Amanda, very smart of you indeed. Remember that every day might not produce the right word or phrase, but it will come. I was reading an article with Thich Nhat Hanh today. Basically, embrace your fears and be mindful and grateful for it and happiness will follow.

  5. It's the total randomness that always surprises me - everywhere we look we are surrounded by images and words jostling for our attention and yet somehow it is in those quiet half attentive moments when we are simply flicking through the newspaper/magazine/book or we simply glance up and about us and something catches our eye and makes an immediate connection with our thoughts/feelings and all those other words and images surrounding us just disappear.

  6. For some reason I'm always inspired by Mexican art and film; magical realism I suppose.
It is so interesting the different things that attract different people and how we all come together at times in spite of these differences. I also love Georgia O'Keefe.

  7. I enjoyed this glimpse into the images and words that inspire you. I have something similar - on a much smaller scale.
